Lastoursville was originally founded as the slave depot of Mandji. In 1883, it was renamed Maadiville, but 3 years later it got its current name, after François Rigail de Lastours. Locals usually call it Lozo. Lastoursville sits on the southern banks of the Ogooué River, 390 km southeast of Libreville.
During the construction of the Transgabonais railway line, the town was home to a huge workforce, but now it's a quiet backwater in the hills. There are caves not far from town that have been used for rituals since around 5000 BC. The caves areinscribed into the UNESCO list of world heritage sites. You can also visit the nearby Boundji Waterfalls. Otherwise there is not a whole lot to see in Lastoursville.
Accommodation and restaurants are available.
