Lubango

Lubango hss been in ruins for a long time, but nowadays reconstruction is well under way. There are many colonial buildings, but most of them were badly damaged during the civil was in Angola. Lobango's streets are filled with people and it is quite interesting to stop and watch all the hustle and bustle. The city is overlooked by a huge statue of Christ. The statue is lit by night. Lubango is the provincial capital of Angola's Huila province. The city was founded in 1885 by immigrants from Madeira and in Portuguese colonial times it was known as Sá da Bandeira.

Only little accommodation is available in Lubango. The city is 680 km south from Luanda.
