Macas
Macas is the capital of Morona Santiago province in southeastern Ecuador.
Macas was one of the staging points for the Spanish colonization of the Amazon and the subjugation of the region's indigenous peoples.
The area around Macas is used for agricultural purposes and livestock raising. The city is a popular base for people who want to go jungle trekking and trips to indigenous communities are available in town. The rivers around Macas are excellent for rafting.
Macas is east of the Andes mountains, in the Upano Valley and the city overlooks the Upano river. Macas is 250 km southeast of Quito.
