Mamou

Mamou is often referred to as 'the gateway to the Fouta Djallon', as all vehicles heading for the Fouta Djallon have to pass through there. It is a lively town, built on a hillside, with many food stalls and small bars concentrated near the open-air theatre/cinema.

There are some hotels in town and it is a good place to stay if you want to hike into the surrounding mountains. Mamou is 200 km northeast of Conakry and served by bus and minibuses.
