Matā'utu is the main settlement on Uvea Island and serves as capital for Wallis and Futuna. In the center of town you will find the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption, the adjecent King's Palace, a craft outlet and the post office, while not far to the west is Mata Utu's police station, as well as the airline office and the Uvea Shopping Center. Mt. Lulu Fakahega is the town's backdrop. On the mountain is an old chapel.
Matā'utu is connected to Uvea's other sights via the island's circuit road. One of these sights is the Church of the Sacred Heart, which stands beside the road like a multi-tiered lighthouse and cannot be missed.
There are several hotels and restaurants in the center of town. More accommodation and food places are in the area to the west of town. Mata Utu has some weekend discos as well.
