Maubisse


Maubisse is an old hill station and it's climate is nice and refreshing after staying in Dili, or some other lower-lying place. The former government rest house is quite impressive and is nowadays a privately owned hotel. Maubisse is a good place to stay if you want to explore the surrounding mountains, including East Timor's highest peak, Gunung Tatamailau, which is 2963 m high and lies 20 km west of town.

There are some hotels and restaurants in Maubisse The historic town was heavily damaged during the struggle for independence in 1999, but nowadays most of it has been restored and it's well worth a visit. Maubisse is 30 km south of Dili.
