Menengai Crater
The extinct Menengai Crater rises 2,490 m, some 10 km (6 mi) north from Nakuru. Some volcanic activity continues and provides geothermal energy. It is one of the world's largest calderas and you can walk up the rim, but it will take several hours. Much more interesting is to drive there and then walk 483 m down to the bottom of the crater.
The volcano is surrounded by rich farmland. The Menengai Crater is 150 km northwest of Nairobi.
