Mercedes
Mercedes is a coastal town in the Uruguayan Littoral. It is an excellent place if you like boating, fishing and swimming. The city was founded in 1788.
Mercedes has several good beaches. The riverside promenade of rambla is one of the widest in Uruguay.
The city has numerous churches, inclusing:
- The Roman Catholic Catedral de Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes (Cathedral of Our Lady of Mercy) was built in Neoclassical style. It was consecrated in 1867.
- The Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish Church is a Roman Catholic church.
- St. John the Baptist Parish Church is also a Roman Catholic church.
- St. Pius X Parish Church is a Roman Catholic church.
There are several hotels and restaurants in town. Mercedes is 250 km northwest of Montevideo.
