Mingun (မင်းကွန်းမြို့)

Mingun sits on the Ayeyarwady River and it is the most interesting of the four 'deserted cities' in the vicinity of Mandalay. There are numerous monuments, all in different states of dilapidation. The most interesting one is the ruined Mingun Pahtodawgyi, but probably, getting to Mingun is more interesting than the town itself. Mingun is accessible by boat from Mandalay and the ride on the river is a treat.

Accommodation is available in nearby Mandalay. Mingun is 35 km northwest of Mandalay and 605 km north of Yangon (Rangoon).
