Mohale's Hoek
The region around the current town of Mohale's Hoek has always been inhabited by San people. The Baphuthi people arrived there around 1795 and settled in the small mountain fortress of Kubake. After 1824, Lesotho's first King Moshoeshoe's younger brother named Mohale settled there. During British rule, the town of Mohale's Hoek slowly developed. It was named after Moshoeshoe's brother.
Mohale's Hoek is a better place to stay in eastern Lesotho than Mafeteng, 45 km to the northwest. The town is about 100 km southwest of Maseru.
There are several hotels and lodges in town.
