Ghana's largest National Park is west of Tamale in the savannah region in the northwest of the country. It was formerly known as Mole Game Reserve. The park covers 4,577 km ² and features elephants, antelopes, monkeys, waterbuck, crocodile, lions and leopards in the park. The best time to spot animals is between March and June at the end of the dry season. A guide can take you walking through the park for several hours, but it is also possible to hire a Land Rover with driver.
The Levi and Mole rivers flow through the park, but during he dry season they dry up and only some deeper parts of the rivers remain to serve as drinking holes for the wildlife.
You can stay at the hotel, or safari lodge, inside the park, but it is also possible to camp there. In the same building is a small museum that displays various skulls and weapons.
There is a bus between Tamale and Mole Game Reserve, but it is also possible to take the bus from Tamale to Bole and get off at Larabanga, from where it is some 4 km walking.
Mole Game Reserve is 24 km from Damongo, 146 km southeast of Tamale and 700 km from Accra.
