Monnickendam
Monnickendam is an old fishing village on the Gouwzee. There are numerous nice 17th and 18th-century buildings in town, such as the Stadhuis (Town Hall) and the Waegh. A nice example of one of the town's 16th-century buildings is the speeltoren, while the Sint Nicolaas Kerk (Church of St. Nicholas) dates from the 1400s.
Every weekend the entire center of Monnickendam is turned into a large market place and it gets very crowded with people. Monnickendam is 15 km north of Amsterdam.
