Musina was known as Messina up to 2003. It is 15 km from Beitbridge, the major border crossing point between South Africa and Zimbabwe. It is a somewhat neglected town, but a good place to stay before crossing into Zimbabwe. The town has grown largely due to the rich copper deposits found there. Iron ore, magnetite, graphite, coal, semi-precious stones and diamonds are mined in the region.
Musina has bus and train connections with both Beitbridge in Zimbabwe and Louis Trichardt, as well as many other places in South Africa.
A wide range of accommodation is available in Musina, including hotels, lodges, bed and breakfasts, guest houses, self-catering units and excellent camping facilities. Musina is 425 km northeast of Pretoria.
