Mzuzu

Mzuzu

Mzuzu is a service town in northern Malawi. It is a good place to get supplies, as virtually anything can be bought in town. Mzuzu sits in a gap in the Viphya Mountains. There is not much of interest in Mzuzu. The area around the city is an agricultural region, where you can see many tea, coffee and rubber plantations. East of Mzuzu are the forest preserves of Lunyangwa and Kaning'ina. There is a golf club in Mzuzu. In the Zolozolo area you'll find the Mzuzu Botanic Gardens.

Not too far from Mzuzu are some nice beaches on Lake Malawi. The nearby Nyika National Park is the largest national park in Malawi. Activities there include hiking, mountain biking, horse riding safaris and 4x4 excursions. Other good places for hiking include the Kaning'ina mountains and the area around Gulliver Dam.

Accommodation and restaurants are available in town. Mzuzu is 280 km north of Lilongwe.
