Namib-Naukluft National Park

The Namib-Naukluft National Park is located in the west of Namibia. It covers an area of 49,768 km² (19,216 sq mi) and stretches from west to east between the Atlantic coast and the Great Escarpment. It is bounded in the north by the Swakob river and in the south by the B4 Road that runs between Lüderitz and Keetmanshoop. The park includes parts of the Namib Desert, the Naukluft mountain range and the lagoon at Sandwich Harbour.

The most famous part of the park is the clay pan of Sossusvlei, which is surrounded by some of the world's highest sand dunes. The Namib-Naukluft National Park is the largest natural reserve in Africa.

Animals that roam this arid region include snakes, geckos, insects, hyenas, gemsboks, springboks, leopards, African wildcats, cape foxes, baboons, caracals, bat-eared foxes and jackals. Along the coast you will see several seal colonies.

The Namib-Naukluft National Park was established in 1907 and it has been extended several times since then.
