The city of Newport is located on the White River, some 135 km (84 mi) northeast of Little Rock.

There are several historic buildings in Newport, including the Newport Station, or Missouri-Pacific Depot-Newport. The railroad station was built in 1904 and it is located at Walnut and Front streets.
