Newport (Washington)

In 1890, Newport got its name, as it was selected to be the place where the first steamboat on the Pend Oreille River would dock.

The first bridge over the river was constructed in 1906. It was replaced in 1926 and again in 1988. The 2nd oldest bar in Washington is the historic Kelly's Bar and Grill. It opened in 1894. The Pend Oreille County Courthouse and the Pend Oreille County Historical Museum are also worth a visit.

There are several hotels and restaurants in town. Newport is in the northwestern corner of the U.S. state of Washington, on the border with Idaho and 465 km northeast from Olympia.
