The Northeast Greenland National Park is known as Kalaallit Nunaanni Nuna Eqqissisimatitaq in Greenlandic. It is the world's largest nature reserve, as well as one the most inaccessible ones. The park was established in 1974 and expanded to its current size in 1988.

It was inscribed in the UNESCO world heritage list as a Man and Biosphere Reserve, an important eco system. The park encompasses the entire northeast of Greenland and mainly consists tundra and ice fields. It is Greenland's only national park.

Caribou wolves, musk oxen and polar bears roam the reserve and there is an interesting variety of Arctic plant life.

The world's northernmost piece of land is also included in the park. It is a tiny gravel island, 100 m (328 ft) across, which is called Kaffelklubben Ø. it is just north of the larger Oodaaq island. The only way to get there is by helicopter, but that will require some cash.

Hunting and hiking trips into the Northeast Greenland National Park can be arranged from several places in Greenland, but official permits are needed. Usually the park is accessed by air from Flugfélag Norourlands in Akureyri, Iceland. From there you fly to Mesters Vig airport in the Northeast Greenland National Park.
