Old Ningo

Old Ningo

Old Ningo was settled around Fort Fredensborg, which the Danish had built there upon settling in the region. The remains of the fort sit on Ghana's coast of the Gulf of Guinea. The area has always been home to a fishing and farming community.

The Danes established the Fort Fredensborg in 1734. Later it was renamed Ningo.

The town became prosperous with the slave trade, but upon its abolition, Old Ningo dwindled.

In 1850, the British took over, but by that time the fort was already in ruins.

Old Ningo is close to Accra.
