Paharpur
Most people come to Paharpur to visit the remains of the 8th-century Buddhist monastery of Somapura Mahavihara, one of the best examples of pre-Islamic Bangladeshi architecture. The ruins are one of the most important archaeologial sites in Bangladesh and were inscribed into the list of UNESCO world heritage sites in 1985.
There is little of interest in the town of Paharpur itself.
There are several hotels and restaurants in town. Paharpur is 225 km northwest of Dhaka.
