Parque Nacional el Cajas (El Cajas National Park)

Parque Nacional el Cajas (El Cajas National Park) covers 285.44 km² (28,544 ha) of hills and valleys that are predominantly characterized by páramo vegetation. It was founded in 1996.

Countless bird species roam the park, including the endangered South American condor. 44 mammal species have been identified in El Cajas National Park, such as opossums, cats, bats, pumas, coatis, weasels, skunks, foxes, porcupines, pacas, shrews, rabbits and other rodents.

The park is located in the highlands of Ecuador and the highest peak is the 4,450 m high Cerro Arquitectos (Architects Hill). The nearby city of Cuenca is a good place to stay if you want to visit the park.
