Philipsburg (Pennsylvania)

Archaeological evidence shows that the area around present-day Philipsburg has been inhabited by indigenous people since at least 10,000 BC. The first European settlers arrived in 1797 and Philipsburg was founded in 1864.

In 1936, the Cold Stream Dam broke and large parts of central Philipsburg were flooded. More flooding occurred in 2018 and 2021, as a result of heavy rain.

Points of interest

Philipsburg Borough Hall is a nice red-brick building.
The Rowland Mansion was the home of former U.S. Congressman Charles Hedding Rowland. The house has been converted into a museum. It is located in South Center Street.
The Rowland Theater opened in 1916. The movie theater can seat an audience of 400 people. It is located at 127 North Front Street.
Union Church is also known as the Old Mud Church. The church was originally completed in 1820. In 1842, it was rebuilt in Gothic style. The church is located in East Presqueisle Street. Adjacent to the church is a burial ground that contains graves dating back to 1819.

There are some hotels and restaurants in Philipsburg. The city is located in central Pennsylvania.
