Poum
Poum is a small and windswept town on the northern tip of Grande Terre. There is little of interest in Poum, but the nearby Boat-Pass, or Pointe Nahârian, at the northern tip of the peninsula is worth a visit. It is a barren, desolate place that is often exposed to rough weather and wild seas. The rest of the peninsula is covered with palms, grasslands and araucaria pines.
Also not far from Poum is the Baie Banare, where you'll find the desolate beaches of Nennon and Kejaon.
Some accommodation is available in Poum. The town sits at Banare Bay, 340 km (210 mi) northwest of Nouméa, at the end of the RT1. Just offshore from Poum is the island of Mouac. The best way to get there, is to fly from Nouméa to Koumac, where you can take a bus for the last 45 km (27 mi). You can also come all the way by bus, but in any case you will have to change at Koumac.
