Quba (Kuba)
In the 18th century the picturesque town of Quba used to be the capital of a small khanate. There is a 16th-century fortress in town, as well as several 19th century mosques and an old bathhouse.
Points of interest:
- The Juma Mosque was built in 1802.
- Sakina-Khanum Mosque was built in 1854 in memory of Abbasgulu Bakikhanov.
- Chuhur hamam is a bathhouse. It has a large dome that enabled it to maintain the right temperature and humidity inside. Water was supplied from the well under the bath and it has been in use until 1985.
- The Museum of Local History was named after Abbasgulu Bakikhanov. It was founded in 1943 and is housed in the building where the writer used to live.
- Portal Frame Bridge is the only of seven historical bridges in Quba that has survived to this day. It was built in 1894 and is also known as Kudyalchay Bridge.
- Nizami Park was named after Nizami Ganjavi. The park features a statue of the Persian poet.
- The Olympic complex was opened in October 2003. The complex features facilities for the development of several different sports.
- The Guba Genocide Memorial was opened in 2013 on the site of a WWI mass grave that had been discovered in April 2007.
