Quessant Island (Tariwerwi)
Quessant is an uninhabited coral island in the Louisiade Archipelago, some 30 km southeast from Wari. It is sometimes referred to as Tariwerwi, or Ouessant. The island is low-lying and covered with lush vegetation. Quessant was originally discovered by explorer Louis Antoine de Bougainville in 1768. He named it after Île d'Ouessant, the French island not far from Brest, where he had started his exploration.
