Réserve de Faune du Dja (Dja Faunal Reserve)

The Dja Faunal Reserve was created in 1950. It covers an area of 5,260 km² and it is one of the largest and best-protected humid forests in Africa. The reserve is almost completely surrounded by the Dja River, which forms its natural boundary. There are several Baka pygmy villages in the reserve.

The Dja Faunal Reserve is especially noted for its biodiversity and a wide variety of primates. There are more than 1,500 known plant species in the reserve, as well as more than 100 mammal species and over 350 bird species.

The reserve is in southeastern Cameroon, about 150 km southeast of Yaoundé. It was inscribed in the UNESCO list of world heritage sites in 1987.
