República Federal de Centro América
The República Federal de Centro América (Federal Republic of Central America) was originally known as the Provincias Unidas del Centro de América (United Provinces of Central America).
After most of Central America declared independence from Spain in 1821, the region was annexed by the Empire of Mexico. In 1823, the United Provinces of Central America gained independence and it was later renamed the Federal Republic of Central America.
The republic existed from 1823 to 1841, and it coved the area between Mexico and Colombia. Its capital was Guatemala City until 1934, after which San Salvador became the capital.
In 1938, the republic descended into civil war and in 1941, it was dissolved into the 5 independent countries of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.
