Rurrenabaque

Rurrenabaque is a lively little town on the eastern banks of the Río Beni, on the edge of the Bolivian lowland. The Tacana, who originally inhabited the area, were one of the few lowland tribes that resisted Christianity and Western-style civilization. As a result, Rurrenabaque is one of the loveliest and most unspoilt towns of the Bolivian lowland. Jungle trips into the surrounding rain forest are available in town. Trips are made by boat, or on foot.

Rurrenabaque is a good place to stay if you want to visit the Madidi National Park, or the surrounding pampas.

There are several hotels and restaurants in Rurrenabaque, which is locally mostly referred to as 'Rurre'. The town is 235 km north of La Paz and 560 km northwest of Sucre.
