Rutshuru

Rutshuru is a good place to stay if you want to visit the gorilla groups at Rumangabo and Djomba. The chimpanzee groups at Tongo is also in the vicinity and even if you don't visit the primates, Rutshuru is still an interesting place to go.

There are several hotels and restaurants in the town. Rutshuru is 1,620 km east of Kinshasa, close to the borders with both Uganda and Rwanda. About 40 km southwest from Rutshuru is the Nyamuragira volcano. Flows from this volcano have come to within 7 km of Rutshuru in recent times.
