Serengeti National Park

Serengeti National Park

The Serengeti is probably one of the world's best-known national parks. It was established in 1940 and it covers an area of 14,763 km² (5757 sq mi) of endless, treeless plains. It is connected with the Tanzanian Ngorongoro Conservation Area, the Maswa Game Reserve and the Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya.

There are millions of antelope, gazelle, giraffe, wildebeest, zebra and other herbivores that are constantly on the move in search of pasture. The predators that feed off them follow in their trails. They include cheetah and lion.

The most famous feature of the Serengeti is annual animal migration of 1.5 million blue wildebeest and 250,000 zebra along with smaller herds of Thomson's gazelle and eland. Most tourists try to catch a glimpse of the herds crossing the Grumeti and Mara Rivers, where around 3,000 crocodiles lie in wait.

There are several campsites and lodges in the park. Access to the Serengeti National Park is quite expensive compared to other places where wildlife roams.
