Sighişoara is a Saxon medieval town Târnava Mare River on the in Transylvania. It is surrounded by beautiful hills and the town itself is very picturesque. The old town is inscribed in the UNESCO list of world heritage sites. There are many medieval buildings that are very well preserved. Sighi&sedil;oara's greatest attraction is its Dracula connection though. Inside the walls of the medieval citadel stands the Dracula House, the building in which Vlad Tepes was born in 1431 and lived as a kid. It has been converted into a bar and restaurant.
The walls that surround Sighişoara's citadel include nine towers, although originally there have been more. Some of the most interesting sights in the citadel are the clock tower, the history museum and the Church of the Dominican Monastery, which became the main Lutheran church of the Saxons in 1566. The Gothic Church on the Hill can be reached by the 172-steps covered stairway.
There are several hotels and restaurants in Sighişoara. The city has good bus and train connections woth domestic and international destinations. Sighişoara is 230 km northwest of Bucureşti (Bucharest).
Only 4 km (2.5 miles) northeast of Sighişoara is the town of Albeşti. It has a museum dedicated to the Romanian poet Sandor Petofi, who died there in 1848 during a battle.
