Springbok
In 1852, the town was founded on the farm Melkboschkuil to establish a copper mine there. Ten years later it was established as Springbokfontein. In 1911, its name was shortened to Springbok. It grew rapidly until more copper was discovered in nearby Okiep, after which Springbok only served as a source of water for the mining industry.
Springbok serves as the capital of Namaqualand. There is nothing of interest in Springbok, but the surrounding countryside is stunning. The nearby Goegap Nature Reserve has a large collection of native plants.
There are several hotels and restaurants in Springbok. The town is in the west of South Africa, 1,110 km southwest of Pretoria.
