Tembe Elephant Park
The Tembe Elephant Park was established in 1983, to protect the last free-roaming elephants in South Africa, but it was not opened to the public until 1991. Nowadays, several hundred of the animals can be found in the area, although poachers remain a problem. The area can only be visited on organized tours.
Apart from the lelphants, the park is also home to more than 340 bird species.
The Tembe Elephant Park is in the province of KwaZulu-Natal in the east of South Africa, adjacent to the on the Ndumo Game Reserve and on the border with southern Mozambique.
