About 14 km from Tinghir, a small town in the High Atlas Mountains, is the Todgha Gorge, one of Morocco's most impressing natural sights. The gorge is sometimes referred to as 'Todra Gorge'. It starts in the area where the green valley gets narrower and more barren. A small crystal clear river runs at the bottom of the 300-meter deep gorge. At some places the gorge is only about 10 meters wide and at other places it is up to 400 m tall. The gorge is lined by limestone rock.
On the way from Tinerhir there are many palmeraies and neglected kasbahs.
The area around the gorge is excellent for hiking and rock climbing on the near vertical rock face can be arranged from one of the many hotels in the area. There are also several camping grounds a few kilometers from the gorge.
