The Trans-Siberian Railway connects Moscow with Vladivostok. The 9,289 km (5,772 mi) long journey takes six days and the train passes through a wide variety of landscapes and settlements. It is the longest railway line in the world.
You will see endless forests, vast plains and numerous interesting towns and cities, such as Irkutsk and Ulan-Ude, which both lie on Lake Baikal. The lake is home to the world's only fresh-water seal.
Depending on your fellow travellers and the friendliness of the carriage attendants the journey can either be fascinating or absolutely boring, but either way it will be an unforgettable experience.
Tickets are usually bought in Moscow. Another interesting route is the one between Moscow and Beijing in China.
