Trenton (Nova Scotia)

Trenton was founded in 1786 on the eastern bank of the East River and it was named after Trenton in New Jersey. The town's economy was largely dependent on the industrial manufacturing facility of TrentonWorks.

The factory opened in the 1870s and it was Canada's first steel mill. It later focused on the manufacture of steel products rather than the production of just steel. The factory closed in 2016. The old buildings still dominate Trenton's waterfront.

The Trenton Steeltown Centennial Park features numerous walking trails, an outdoor swimming pool, an amphitheater a canteen that caters refreshments during the summer. One of the trails in the center of the park runs along various scenic ponds and is part of the Trans Canada trail. The park sits on the northeastern fringe of Trenton.

The town is 130 km northeast of Halifax.
