Tsitsikamma National Park

Tsitsikamma National Park

Tsitsikamma National Park covers a narrow strip along the southern coast of Eastern Cape province, between Plettenberg Bay and Jeffrey's Bay. It got its name from the Khoekhoe words 'tse-tsesa gami', which means 'clear water' and might refer to the Tsitsikamma River.

The coastal reserve features a stunning coastline and indigenous forests. The park's main accommodation is located at Storms River Mouth.

One of South Africa's most famous trails is the Otter Trail, which is a 41-kilometer long hiking trail that runs along the coast through the park. Several shorter trails can be walked as well. There are several camp sites along the route.

Accommodation is also available in Plettenberg Bay and Jeffrey's Bay, as well as several other towns on the coast.

In 2009, Tsitsikamma National Park was amalgamated with the Wilderness National Park and the Knysna National Lake Area, as well as several other areas, to form the Garden Route National Park.

Bloukrans Bridge is not far from the park. It features the world's highest bridge bungee jump at 216 m (709 ft). George is a good place to stay if you want to visit the park.
