Yankari Game Reserve was established in 1956. It was later known as Yankari National Park. It is 60 km southeast of Bauchi and some 160 km east of Jos in the northeast of Nigeria. The park is one of the last places in Nigeria where wildlife can be seen. Animals that roam the park include bushbuck, crocodile, elephant, hippo, lion, monkeys and waterbuck. The best time to visit the park is in January or February. You can drive through the park, but walking there with a guide is also possible.
An interesting feature in the reserve are the thermal Wikki Warm Springs.
Yankari Game Reserve covers 2,244 km² (866 sq mi).
There is a lodge complex inside the park. You can get to Yankari Game Reserve by minivan from Bauchi to Dindima, where you can get a bush-taxi to the entrance gate.
