Zhāngjiākǒu is also known as Kalgan. The city has always been military significant because of its strategic position on the crossroads of several important transport routes.
The area around Zhāngjiākǒu is mostly covered by forest. The city is one of the largest generators of wind and solar energy in China. It was also one of the venues for the 2022 Winter Olympics.
There are several historic sites in Zhāngjiākǒu, including Dàjìngmén (大境门), which is also knwon as te Dajing Gate. It is a gate in the Great Wall and it was built around 1644. Well-preserved part of the Great Wall can also be seen in the city. In winter Zhāngjiākǒu is a good place to stay if you want to go skiing. Visitors can sleep in a Mongolian yurt on Zhangbei Grassland, when the weather is better.
There are numerous hotels and restaurants in Zhāngjiākǒu. The city is in the northwest of the Hebei Province.
