The emirate of Al Fujairah is in the northeast of the UAE and straddles the gulf of Oman. In the town of Al Fujairah there is a 17th century fort. There is a museum in the town that has archaeological and ethnographic exhibitions. The waterfront is a nice place to stroll around in the evenings and there are many small bars and restaurants serving local specialties. Many people regard the area around Al Fujairah as the prettiest part of the UAE.
The town of Bithna is 12 km (8 miles) northwest of Fujairah. There are some archaeological sites, of which the so-called Long Chambered Tomb is the most famous one. It is thought to have been a communal burial place. There is also a fort in Bithna.
Accommodation is available in Al Fujairah, though there is no abundance of it. The airport lies a few kilometers outside the town. Al Fujairah lies on the coast of the Gulf of Oman, making it an excellenmt spot for diving.
