Aneityum is the southernmost of Vanuatu's islands and it has the country's most pleasant climate. Most visitors come to Aneityum for trekking, as a walking track that loops the entire island. The coastal vegetation is lush and tropical fruits and vegetables are grown in many places.
The mountainous interior is home to massive kauri pines and beautiful waterfalls. It is dominated by three mountains, including the extinct volcanoes of Mount Inrerow Atahein and Mount Tahentchai.
Some of the most interesting places on Aneityum Island include the reefs of Port Patrick and Inmal, which are excellent for scuba diving. At Umetch, Itchepthav Bay and Anwunupol are hot springs and offshore from Anawamet is a marine sanctuary that was created by the locals to protect the numerous turtles that feed there. Elsewhere on the island the turtles are hunted for food.
Some accommodation is available on Aneityum. The island is 320 km southeast of Port Vila. Aneityum has air connections with the capital.
