Asir National Park consists of several small parks rather than one big one. The conglomeration of parks covers an area of 450,000 ha (1 million acres), which stretches from Saudi Arabia's southern Red Sea coast to the desert area east of the mountains there.
The park area is divided into two parts: mountains in the northwest and plains in the southeast. The mountain area is the most interesting and includes Jebel Sawdah, with 3133 m (9700 feet), Saudi Arabia's highest summit. Not far from the peak is Al-Soudah the most stunning part of the park. Asir's visitor' center has a scale model of the entire area, as well as an excellent observation deck.
The nearby town of Abha is quite interesting and well worth a visit. Each one of the smaller parks that make up Asir National Park includes a free camping ground/picnic area, but there are no facilities whatsoever. The only way to get to Asir National Park is by own means of transportation.
