Brandberg
The Brandberg mountains are located north of Uis. The 2573 meters high Königstein is the highest peak in Namibia. The name 'Brandberg' means fire mountain, due to the effect of the sunlight on its red rocks. In the Tsisab ravine you can see many rock paintings.
The best place to go is Maack's Shelter where the famous White Lady rock painting can be seen. The white figure may be as much as 16,000 years old. The German surveyor Dr. Reinhard Maack first discovered the paintings in 1918 when he sought shelter from the blazing sun under an overhanging rock.
