Cedarberg Wilderness

The Cape administered Cedarberg Wilderness is a 71,000 hectare large area of rugged valleys and peaks up to 2000 meters high. The area is dominated by sandstone formations and the vegetation consists mainly of mountain fynbos, including the rare Clanwilliam cedar.

Animals that roam the park include baboon, caracal, honey badger, klipspringer and rhebok. At any given time only 150 people are allowed in the park, so it is best to book in advance. There are several hiking trails, but parties must have a minimum of 2 adults and can be 12 people maximum. The nearest town is Clanwilliam, but you can camp inside the park at the Algeria and Kliphuis sites.
