The Chihuahua al Pacífico Railway runs through the canyons of the Sierra Tarahumara, between Los Mochis and Chihuahua. The track runs through 88 tunnels and over 38 bridges and the views are absolutely stunning. At some places you can look from your carriage window straight down hair-raising cliffs, while at others you will see nothing more than walls of rock on either side. The highlights of the trip is the view over the Copper Canyon, which is deeper and grander than the Grand Canyon in Arizona. It is possible to get off at Creel or nearby Divisadero, where you can climb down the 2300 m (7544 feet) to the bottom or make hiking trips in the surrounding area. Guides are compulsory. It took 90 years to complete the railway.
