Cocos Island is mostly privately owned. It lies about 3 km (1.9 miles) off Guam's southern tip and it is surrounded by reefs and it boasts marvelous beaches and lagoons.
The western side of Cocos Island used to be a U.S. Coast Guard station area, but nowadays it's a protected area, known as Dano and part of the territorial park system. If you want to visit the park, you must hike over from the resort dock to the other side of the island. It is also possible to hire a boat in order to get there. In the park, picnicking and camping facilities are available.
You can get to Cocos Island by boat from Merizo on Guam's southern coast. The boats run several times a day. Cocos Island is 30 km south of Hagatña.
