Deep Bay has nice sandy beaches around a small bay, which has excellent swimming conditions. In the center of the Bay lies the wreck of the Andes, with its mast still sticking out of the water. The ship sank as a result of a fire in the beginning of the 20th century. There is a lot of ooze around the wreck, which makes is less attractive for scuba divers.
Atop the promontory on the northern end of the bay stand the ruins of Fort Barrington. The fort was originally built in the 17th century to protect the southern entrance of Saint John's Harbor, but most of the remains that you can see there nowadays date from 1779. It takes about 10 minutes to walk to the fort from the beach.
At nearby Hog John Bay, which is separated from Deep Bay by a salt pond, is a nice beach, as well as several hotels.
In Deep Bay accommodation is available as well. The town is 5 km east of Saint John's.
