Eastern Paraguay

Many of Paraguay's tourist attractions are situated in the southern part of the country, not too far from the capital of Asunción. Some interesting towns in the area include Paraguay's most important religious center of Caacupé; Itaguá; the lakeside resorts of Areguá and San Bernadino, both on Lago Ypacaraí; the Jesuit ruins at Trinidad, San Ignacio Guazú and Santa María.

There are several national parks, of which Cerro Corá National Park and Ybycuí national Park are the most popular.

The Itaipú Dam on the border with Brazil is also worth a visit.
