The Ferghana Valley is a wide valley in between the Tian Shan and the Pamir Alay ranges. It is one of the most densely populated areas in Central Asia and the center of Uzbekistan's silk industry.
During Soviet times large parts of the valley were turned into cotton plantations and numerous ancient trading towns became industrial zones, so there is little of interest in the region. The bazaar in Marghlan is worth a visit, but otherwise, the only reason to stay in the Ferghana Valley is to use it as a base for trips into the mountains.
The major towns in the valley are Kokand, Ferghana and Marghilan, which are respectively served by air, road and rail from Tashkent.
