The small Balearic island of Formentera is often referred to as Pitiusa Paradise. The Mediterranean Sea is visible from practically every point on the island. Formentera features numerous great beaches, lonely bays and incredible grottos. The superb climate, with springtime temperatures during most of the year, the rich vegetation of pines and palms and the quiet and relaxed atmosphere make Formentera a true paradise.
There are several nice towns on Formentera. La Sabina is a nice little town with whitewashed houses. It is the island's only port. Las Salinas, at the narrowest part of the island, offers landscapes of unique beauty. In the interior is San Francisco Javier, a concentration of white houses around a fortified church. San Fernando is located in the midst of large pine woods. The woods cover most of the island between the beach of Es Pujols in the north and the beach of Mitjorn in the South. Other interesting beaches can be found at En Boster, Ca'n Xico Mateu and the impressive natural port of Es Caló. The beach at Cala Saona is probably the island's best one.
La Mola is situated at the southeastern tip of Formentera. It features the beautiful Iglesia del Pilar. The road to the town leads up to the 193 m high viewpoint of El Mirador. The viewpoint offers fantastic views over Formentera. The island's western part offers large areas of untouched nature.
The only way to get to Formentera is by ferry from Ibiza, 15 km to the north. Ferries run approximately every 2 hours. From the port of Formentera, buses are available to La Sabina, San Francisco and La Mola.
Accommodation and restaurants are available in most towns across Formentera. The island measures 90 km² and lies 490 km southeast of Madrid.
